Frozen shoulder and lipids.
We prospectively studied 50 patients with the diagnosis of primary frozen shoulder. The serum lipid levels were measured in 43 of these patients and compared with those in 43 age-matched and sex-matched control subjects. The fasting serum triglyceride and cholesterol levels were significantly elevated in the frozen-shoulder group (cholesterol p < 0.01; triglyceride p < 0.02).

Fifty-six patients with frozen shoulder have had their personality profiles investigated by means of the Middlesex Hospital Questionnaire. Females showed significantly increased somatic anxiety compared with controls. It is suggested that this may be important both to aetiology and treatment. This immunological study of 40 patients with frozen shoulder showed a pretreatment increase in immune complex levels, C-reactive protein, and decreased lymphocyte transformation to phytohemagglutinin and concanavalin A compared to a control group.
